8th June 2008

These are the 'before' pictures of our garden.

20th June 2008

The first week of work and one skip load of soil later...

Let the excavation begin!

The discovery of Jurassic coral... The things I have to do to get my own playground!

Will it be ready in time for the Olympics?! Daddy, what happens if I pull this lever?

24th June 2008

The second week now, can you tell what it is yet?

Holes have started to
appear everywhere...
...but the IKEA instructions are
proving to be a bit of a challenge
At least Isla's slide is
now in place
!

3rd July 2008

Fortunately the concrete doesn't quite cover
the entire garden!
Maybe we should have a paddling pool instead!

Then everyone went on holiday, and somewhat predictably, no progress was made in the garden.

20th July 2008

More concrete. The bunker is nearly ready! Look daddy, I can do this with my eyes shut Ready for a test run

Where is my beer, daddy? Yes Sir, I can boogie

28th July 2008

A mysterious mole has been digging up
the rest of garden
With stroke of genius we even
managed to fit in a tennis court

6th August 2008

The mysterious mole turns out to also be a bit handy at digging trenches and building walls, so things are progressing a bit faster now.

Perhaps we should have
built a moat instead...
...but the crazy paving
had already been ordered
The leaves were added for artistic effect...

And just a couple of days later...

The walls will all be wired directly into the national grid Slowly the garden is turning into an obstacle course And finally the bricks are...

...all falling into place But all it ever does is rain...

20th August 2008

With a break in the rain, and a bank holiday coming up, the priority was on getting the playground finished so that we could relax whilst Isla wears herself out!

It's all ready. Except for the slide.
And the swings. And the flooring.
Well, I don't want wait for the roof to
be put on. Here we go! Yippee!
Meanwhile, Stonehenge is taking on
a new shape with the floor being laid

and wooden posts that could be mistaken for marking
the summer solstice, if only the sun would shine.
To stop them falling over in a gale,
the lights have been put into concrete pots!

11th September 2008

It's now September, and the never ending project is, well, never ending, though some bits are more complete than others.

The sanctuary is
almost ready ...
...apart from a bit more work, putting the
plants in and of course the swing seat!
X marks the spot

There's a new path to
get from A to B
B being the back door
(again, almost done)

2nd October 2008

The building work is all finished now, and the planting was done today. Only thing left to do is to wire up the lights and switch them on for the grand opening! (Just in time for Christmas!)

The streetlamps are all in place, and the plants and compost have all been carefully laid out

Now I've painted the edges the hard work is finally done Shame it has to rain for the water butt
to fill up
Here's that path again

Still missing that swing seat! And a few lights. The vines have already grown about 5 feet today

This is the Herczog
vegetable plantation
Luckily the garden looks much better now
than the 'before' picture (but ignore the bald patch of grass!)

27th November 2008

After quite a delay getting one of the lights replaced, we are all set for next summer! We even have a water butt that is already overflowing...

The final piece of the jigsaw: The swing seat! The vines haven't grown over the top yet...

Who said we don't get blue skies!
It might need a bit of dimming!
A bird's eye view...

That's pretty much it for this news section now. Next spring there's supposed to be hundreds of bulbs coming up, but until then thanks for reading this!

15th April 2009

Well, it was worth the wait (we think!). See for yourselves.

A bug eye view Shame about the grey sky...

Isla's song and dance show Unfortunately for Isla, no pink flowers

One last look (but there may be more to come)
